A delegation of Human Rights Defense International (HRDI), led by its Secretary General Mr. Rajesh Gogna met Ms. SUSHMA SWARAJ , Leader of Opposition , India on 14th April, 2012 at her residence to request her to impress upon Mr. Rajpakshe, President of Sri Lanka to investigate war crimes and allow NGO’s and Human Rights Organisations to visit Sri Lanka to have first hand account of the last phase of conflict and help government of Sri Lanka in it’s rehabilitation programmes. Mr. Gopal Agarwal, Ms. Jyotika Kalra, Mr. Randev Chandershekhar also appraised Ms. Swaraj about the plight of Tamils in Sri Lanka.
Ms. Sushma Swaraj is leading delegation of Parliamentarians of India who are visiting Sri Lanka on 16th April, 2012. Ms. Swaraj had taken up the issue of human rights violations of Tamils in Sri Lanka during the discussion at the Parliament of India.
Ms. Swaraj assured the delegation that she would discuss the issue with the Government of Sri Lanka. She also agreed to meet the delegation of Sri Lankan chapter of HRDI at Colombo and Jaffna.
HRDI had staged the demonstration at High Commission of Sri Lanka on 5th April 2012 to demand investigation of war crimes committed during the last phase of conflict. A delegation of HRDI also met High Commissioner of Sri Lanka after the demonstration and presented a memorandum to Him.
